50 years ago, the University of Forestry and Wood Industries was established based on the College of Forestry that migrated from Selmecbanya to Sopron in 1919. At that time, the first class graduated in the Wood industrial engineering programme, and the Faculty of Wood Sciences was established in addition to the Faculty of Forestry.

Fifty years is a long time, and it has left its mark on the Faculty of Wood Sciences. During these five decades, the FWS went through many changes, and adapted successfully. The original, “monocultural” institution, exclusively focused on education and research in wood science, turned into a key player in technical, applied arts and IT higher education in Western-Transdanubia. However, as the unchanged name shows, the FWS has preserved its unique, character focused on wood and the wood industries.

The various professional and cultural events included in the jubilee celebrations offer excellent opportunities for alumni to reunite and reminisce about old times, as well as for recreation and networking.
